For those in the northern hemisphere, summer brings with it the kind of weather that makes us all want to keep cool and devour a delicious ice-cream. But humans aren't the only ones to suffer from hot weather! So here are 5 DIY recipes to keep your dog or cat cool this summer...
The Yummypets team has gathered five of our favourite DIY iced recipes that your dog or cat will simply love!

1. Iced Stock
What you will need:
- 1 organic/100% natural beef or chicken stock cube (low in salt)
- Ice cube trays or individual moulds
Preparation:
1. Prepare the stock according to the instructions and allow to cool
2. Pour into ice cube trays or moulds and place in freezer overnight
3. Give to your pet (preferably outside to avoid any mess)
2. Tuna Ice Cubes
What you will need:
- 1 tin of tuna in oil, drained (non-flavoured, low salt)
- 1 tsp oil
- 2 tsp water
- Ice cube trays or individual moulds
Preparation:
- Place all ingredients into a bowl and mix together
- Spoon mixed ingredients into ice cube trays or individual moulds
- Place in freezer overnight
- Give to your pet (preferably outside to avoid any mess)
3. Puréed meat & veg ice cubes
What you will need:
- 100g minced or blended meat
- 100g carrot purée
- 100g apple compote
- 75ml cow, goat* or pet milk
- Ice cube trays or individual moulds
*Goat's milk is more easily digestible than cow's milk if your pet has troubles digesting lactose.
Preparation:
- Combine all ingredients in a bowl
- Spoon the mixture into ice cube trays or moulds
- Place in freezer overnight
- Give to your pet (preferably outside to avoid any mess)
4. Iced Sardines
What you will need:
- 1 tin sardines in oil, drained (non-flavoured, low salt)
- 2 tsp water
- Fish-based treats for your pet
- Ice cube trays or individual moulds
Preparation:
- Crush or break the treats in a zip-lock bag with a rolling pin
- Place crushed treats into bowl with remaining ingredients and mix together
- Scoop mixture into ice cube trays or moulds
- Place in freezer overnight
- Give to your pet (preferably outside to avoid any mess)
Side note: If you're running low on time, follow recipe 2 and replace the tuna with sardines!
5. Iced KONG
What you will need:
- Pre-prepared chicken or beef stock (low salt)
- A handful of your pet's favourite kibble treats
- 1 tbsp flour
- KONG
Preparation:
- Crush or break the treats in a zip-lock bag with a rolling pin
- Place crushed treats into bowl with remaining ingredients and mix together
- Fill KONG with mixture
- Place in freezer overnight
- Give to your pet (preferably outside to avoid any mess)
