Abby was a loved family dog - a one-year-old black Labrador living and loving life with her humans in Apollo, Pennsylvania. And then she went missing.

From playtime to missing: what happened to Abby?

Playing with her human family in their backyard one day, mum Debra Suierveld and her children were taken by surprise when Abby darted off. A happy reunion most would expect after 10, 30, 60 minutes of searching turned into a horrible reality for the family; despite going to great lengths to find little Abby, the energetic black pooch could not be found.

A heartbroken Debra and her family eventually accepted that missing Abby had likely been killed.

Fast forward 10 years and the Suierveld family were in for a huge surprise.

Turning up at someone’s house a mere eight miles away, Abby was taken to a nearby shelter. Thanks to some smart parenting from Debra, Abby had had a microchip implanted when she was a pup and the shelter was quickly able to identify who Abby belonged to.

A phone call later and Debra and her family were once again reunited with Abby.

Despite not knowing where she was for those 10 years, it didn’t seem to bother the Suiervelds anymore, with Debra calling it a miracle!
