For homeless animals, shelters aren't always the comfiest place to sleep. So, with help from IKEA, shelter cats in Toronto will now get a cozy place to sleep!

The Etobicoke Humane Society

The Etobicoke Humane Society (EHS) is an independent charity. Everyone who works there is a volunteer and they have been serving the Greater Toronto Area since 1987. Their services are available for cats and dogs and they operate entirely from donations as well as their own fundraising efforts.

New beds for shelter cats

IKEA’s involvement with EHS came about when Rebecca Gordon, the manager of the EHS, spotted a picture of a cat sleeping on a "DukTig doll bed" from IKEA. Who knew they would be the purrfect size for a sleeping kitty! Many other pet parents have also discovered this different and cool idea.

After seeing the photos online, EHS reached out to IKEA to see if they would be willing to help them out. It turns out that IKEA was more than happy to help and donate a number of their doll beds.

In fact, IKEA was already fundraising for EHS, unbeknownst to the volunteer staff at the shelter. The day EHS called IKEA about the beds was when IKEA told them about the money they had been raising for the team at EHS. IKEA staff ended up raising $300CAD.

Shelter cats loving the doll beds

Since the donation from IKEA, the doll beds have been a hit with the shelter's cats and they finally have a comfier place for some shut-eye.

This isn't the first time IKEA has shown their love of animals - they have also taken homeless dogs into their stores to protect them from the cold.
