Despite only being a pup, brave little Todd ran between his owner and a rattlesnake to prevent her from being bitten. He took the brunt of it but managed a miraculous recovery!

Thankfully this story has a happy ending!

Brave little puppy protects owner from rattlesnake

On the morning of 29 June 2018, Paula Godwin and her two dogs, Todd and Cooper, headed out for their morning walk. Receiving complaints of "it's too early" from inside the house, the three of them set off from their home in Arizona, USA.

Todd, a Golden Retriever puppy, turned out to be the hero of the day when things took an unexpected and frightening turn.

"It was a beautiful morning but as we were walking down the hill I literally almost stepped on a rattlesnake," Paula shared on Facebook.

"But my hero of a puppy Todd saved me. He jumped right in front of my leg were [sic] I surely would have got bit [sic]."

"This is what a hero looks like!" Paula said.

Todd takes the bite

Paula told the BBC: "Todd was yelping right away, crying. I picked him up, ran down the hill with my other dog Cooper, and we got him to the hospital within about 10 minutes of being bit [sic]."

"He got the anti-venom quickly and was in the hospital for about 12 hours," she said.

As you can see from the images, poor little Todd's face swelled up significantly and we can sure bet the pain and discomfort would have been awful.

But thankfully, the brave little puppy pulled through and made a full recovery!

Paula then shared her story on her Facebook page.

Snake-bite puppy finds fame

Following Paula's post on social media, Todd quickly became a viral sensation and was praised for his courageous efforts. Media networks around the world sought him out where he soon appeared in the news, in magazines, and on TV.

Todd became so praised nationally in the US, he took out the "Milk-Bone Dog of the Year Honour" at the annual Streamy Awards ceremony last month.

We're not surprised in the slightest and just so pleased Todd made a full recovery. Seems like mum was too!
