This beautiful puppy had a rough start in life. At 6 weeks old, it was shot at least 18 times with a BB gun in South Carolina.

Severe injuries

A utility worker in an apartment complex in Rock Hill immediately called the police when he saw a group of 15 – 20 young people attacking a black puppy. When he checked on the poor puppy, he noticed it had sustained severe injuries and was bleeding heavily.

Unfortunately the police were unable to determine who had been involved in the attack, but they took the puppy to the Ebenezer Animal Hospital to get the care it needed.

The veterinarian who took care of the puppy said that his wounds were the worst he’d seen in his 8 years at the hospital.

"You don't really know how to respond to something like that. There's just no excuse for torturing a small, defenceless animal like that," he said.

Nurtured back to health

The puppy was stabilised with fluids and pain medicine, and is doing remarkably well considering the trauma he went through.

The case is still under investigation, but a local non-profit Project Safe Pet is taking donations for the cost of the puppy’s care. Hundreds of adoption offers came in, one of them from one of the officers who rescued the puppy.

“He’s going to be a very good companion for somebody,” said Hreiz.
