This great DIY catnip toy found on Martha Stewart's blog is very easy to make and will keep your cat entertained for hours! So let's get crafty...
Here's how to make your cat's very own catnip toy.
What you'll need
- Baby's sock
- Piece of paper
- Bunch of dried catnip
- Needle and thread
- Yarn
- Ornamental feathers or fabric strips
Instructions
Roll up the piece of paper into a cylinder and insert it into the sock. Use a spoon to fill the sock with dried catnip, breaking up any large pieces with your hands. Be sure to use dried catnip, as fresh stuff will just go mouldy. Make sure you fill it well and pack tightly.
With a needle and thread, blind-stitch along the top of the sock. This will allow you to refill the sock easily, by simply undoing the stitching, refilling the sock with dried catnip, and restitching.
If you want to create a loop from which to hang the toy, thread a piece of yarn through the top part of the sock so the yarn creates a loop. Cut it to the desired length and knot it in a few places to prevent tangling.
You can also add fabric or feathers to the toy, as shown in the pictures. These can be sewn in to one side of the sock before filling and sewing the catnip inside.
And voila, easy!
