When we are on our mobile phones, we tend to lose track of time very easily. This can certainly cause trouble for human relationships, but what about the relationship with our dogs?
A feeling of loneliness
Some dogs can actually feel completely neglected when they see their owner absorbed by their telephones. Without realising, we sometimes spend more time with our phones than we do with our pets and that can cause consequences. The emotional link that connects humans with animals can end up getting damaged and the animal can feel alone and isolated. This lack of attention towards him/her is harmful for the relationship between the owner and their dog.
Some dogs are more sensitive than others. On one hand, a dog that suffers from separation anxiety can be hurt to see their owner completely absorbed by their mobile screen, exactly like dogs that don't like sharing their owner with others. On the other hand, dogs that have a more independent temperament will be less bothered about the lack of attention. The same feeling can be found with cats, depending on their characters.
Leaving your phone at home
If you are addicted to your phone, to the point where you sometimes neglect your animal, try and take breaks. When is the best time? On walks with your dog. Leave your phone at home and make the most of this precious time with your furry companion. You can then be able to clear your mind and enjoy the outdoors!
If you think that you have not given as much attention to your dog than you should have done, not to worry, he/she wont hold a grudge. Do as much as you can to prioritise your dog over your phone, and he/she will be the happiest dog ever.
Don’t forget, your animal isn’t here forever, so make the most of the time you have! Your phone can wait.
