This is perhaps one of the most bizarre festivals in Brazil, but dog owners from Rio de Janeiro meet up every year on Copacabana beach to celebrate the Carnival with their animal.

Known locally as Blocao (a play on the words "bloco", which means street party, and "cao", meaning dog), this festival is part of the hundred celebrations taking place until February 28, day of the Carnival parade in Rio, known worldwide.

"The animal excitement compares to Copacabana," said the organizer Marco Antonio Toto. "Our animals deserve this celebration."
