About to take your new little fluffy buddy home? Not sure what sort of food you would like to give your pet? Hopefully this will help you to make your decision!

Wet pet food

Many cat nutrition experts say that keeping your pet on dry food may not always be the best idea. Wet foods can actually be a source of hydration if your animal is the type to not drink a significant amount of water. You might like to try a wet food that is close to around 70% water and see how it goes, but then again, you don't want to be paying for mostly liquid.

Wet pet food is also a good idea for older animals that have lost most of their senses as it usually has a richer scent and flavour. This will ensure that your pet is receiving the proteins, vitamins, and minerals that they need in order to maintain their health. As the food is soft, it is also perfect for pets that have lost teeth, have poorly aligned jaws, or smaller mouths.

Dry pet food

Dry pet food is certainly convenient for storage and for feeding. It is more economically cost effective when feeding multiple pets. It can be left out and the pet can eat it at their own pace without worrying about it spoiling. Some owners even fill their pet's bowl with dry food to last a whole day if they are away. Not forgetting that dry pet food is actually great for teeth; some of them are specially formulated to clean the teeth as the animal chews it.

At the end of the day, if you're unsure about what is best for your pet, speak to your vet. As long as he/she is satisfied, is eating quality food, and being kept well hydrated, rest assured that your animal will be receiving the best diet possible. You might also like to experiment a little and see what your pet prefers. You can even try and mix a bit of both if you like! Of course, you may have to change their diet as they get older, or if your pet experiences any health changes. If you have any concerns, please talk to your vet!
