Herbal therapy, homeopathy, acupuncture : what are the natural ways to cure your dog?

Herbal therapy

This discipline is based on the use of plant extracts to treat human or animal disorders. It is mostly used in long-lasting treatments rather than brief aches. Herbal medicine is particularly effective in relieving the joints of your aging dog. It is also effective for curing dog skin problems like itching or intestinal disorders. You must be aware that if some plants are good for humans, they may still be toxic for an animal! You should not encourage self-medication.

Acupuncture

This traditional Chinese medicine is based on the stimulation of specific points of the body with thin needles. Just like for us, acupuncture has many virtues for pets, including the control of chronic pain. It is used most often in cases of problems like arthritis, osteoarthritis, tendonitis, hernias or when the animal limps. Acupuncture is also used to treat hormonal and reproductive disorders, epilepsy, allergies and intestinal disorders such as vomiting, nausea, diarrhoea, and constipation.

Homeopathy

Homeopathy is an alternative medicine based on the doctrine of “like cures like”, which means a substance that causes pain to someone healthy will cure someone who is suffering from this same pain. Tiny homeopathic pills contain an extremely small amount of that substance in order to cure people, and also animals. Homeopathy is not used to cure serious illnesses and is not a substitute for surgery. However, it is very useful for dogs in cases of allergies, stress, behavioural disorders, skin diseases or digestive troubles... Unlike phytotherapy, it is ok to self-medicate homeopathic treatment for your dog’s brief aches. If the symptoms persist, then you must take your pet to a veterinarian.
