Which tick medication and pet supplement is best for small dog breeds?

Last month, I gave my daughter a pug dog for her birthday. The dog was in excellent health and was 5 months old. He has appeared to be extremely weary and slightly feverish for the past two weeks. He had ticks on his body, but we didn't think it was a huge deal that needed to be addressed. One of my acquaintances warned me that my dog might have tick fever. Which tick medication should I give him? which is the best brand for pet supplements? Any recommendations? Is tick fever a serious illness. Should I bring him to the hospital?
