If you followed the TV series The Vampire Diaries you’ll definitely know of actress Nina Dobrev. Nina was inconsolable after the death of her 18-year-old cat. That is, until her new rescue companion arrived...

Losing a friend

In early 2017, actress Nina Dobrev had to say goodbye to a dear friend of almost 18 years - her beloved cat, Lynx. After Lynx’s death, Nina was inconsolable. To help with her healing, one month later she announced via Instagram she was adopting a new canine companion - a young rescue dog. And the connection between them has only grown stronger ever since.

"Maverick brought me back to life"

The little dog, called Maverick, is a Border Collie-Australian Shepard cross. She was adopted from The Pet Care Foundation, a shelter in Los Angeles.

Nina fell in love with the little puppy on their first meeting. In an interview with Harper’s Bazaar, the young actress explained: "She rescued me as much as I rescued her… I was so lost after Lynx passed, but Maverick brought me back to life."

The beginning of a beautiful friendship

Since Maverick's adoption, the two have become best friends. Maverick puts on her best behaviour in public and loves little walks in La La Land. The little dog has changed her owner’s life and Nina takes her everywhere she goes. She’s even set up an Instagram account for the little star to share her life with everyone.

Celebrities have been adopting more and more dogs from shelters, setting an example for their fans. Amazing news for all those animals desperately waiting for the family they deserve.
