As a member of the family, when it comes time to celebrate your dog's birthday, why not celebrate it with a very special doggy birthday cake made by you. Enjoy making this easy dog birthday cake!

*This recipe contains lactose. Lactose-free substitutions can be made for dogs with a lactose intolerance.

What you need

- 3 eggs
- 3 cups wholemeal flour
- 1 cup plain, unsweetened yoghurt
- 1 chicken breast
- 1 cup soy milk

- 1 tablespoons oil (coconut or canola)
- 1 sachet baking powder

For the frosting:

- 2 tablespoons oil (coconut or canola)

- 1 cup cottage cheese
- 1/2 cup shredded coconut (no sugar added)

Instructions

1. Preheat oven to 180° and line your baking dish with butter and/or baking paper
2. Chop the chicken into small pieces and cook in a pan with two tablespoons of water
3. In a bowl, mix the flour, eggs, oil, yoghurt and soy milk until well combined
4. Add the yeast and chicken and mix well
5. Pour batter into prepared baking dish and place it in the oven for 25 minutes
6. Test using a cake skewer or sharp knife, remove from oven and let cool

For the frosting:

1. Place the cottage cheese in a bowl and add the oil
2. Beat for 2 minutes until the frosting is airy and has a good consistency
3. Spread over the cake with a spatula and then sprinkle over shredded coconut
4. Decorate as you wish, sing happy birthday to your pooch and serve them up a slice!
