We can recognize the American Curl thanks to its moon-shaped ears, but what else do you know about this breed?

Born in the United States, this mutation occurred spontaneously in 1981. Breeders realized that this mutation is independent of the length of hair, so this breed exists in several colors with short hair or long hair. It first appeared in a cat show in 1983 and was an immediate success. Because this breed is very recent there is only 3000 of them around the world.

The peculiarity of its ears give this cat a very original appearance. Kittens are born with straight ears. The ears curve between the second and tenth day after birth.

Their ears take their final shape at the age of 4 months. Namely, the peculiarity of their ears does not require special care and does not develop any particular disease.

There are 3 degrees of declination for feline shows:

1st degree : ears are pretty straight .
2nd degree : a little bent (almost a right angle).
3rd degree : rosebud

In general, this is a very loyal and affectionate cat, who loves to play. It is a discreet and very talkative cat. Its character depends on its history.
