If you feel like showering your dog with a little extra love from time to time, there's no better way to do this than to make them some yummy homemade treats. It's time to get your baking on!

We've got two awesome and easy recipes to pamper your furry friend this winter. So get the kids involved (if you have them), pop the apron on, turn the oven on and get baking!

But remember, just a treat or two at a time, please! ;)

Bitty bacon bikkies

Ingredients:

- 6 slices organic bacon, with rind

- 4 free range or organic eggs, beaten

- 2 cups whole wheat flour

- 2 cups wheat germ

- 2 tablespoons olive oil (flaxseed or sunflower oil ok too)

- 1 cup water

- 1/2 cup non-fat dry organic milk powder

- 1/2 cup cornmeal

Method

- Preheat oven to 175°C (350°F)

- Line 2 baking trays with greaseproof paper and set aside

- Chop rind off bacon, dice finely and set aside

- Chop bacon into small cubes or pieces then combine with finely diced bacon rind

- In a non-stick frying pan, fry bacon and rind for approx. 5 minutes or until golden brown

- In a large bowl, add bacon and all other ingredients and mix together to form a dough-like mixture

- Roll teaspoon-sized amounts of dough into balls and place about 4cm apart on baking tray. Flatten gently with fork

- If you want to get creative, roll the dough flat (about 2cm thick) and use a cookie cutter to shape your treats

- Bake for 15 minutes or until golden brown

- Turn off oven and leave cookies on baking sheet in oven overnight to dry out. Yield: about 4 dozen dog cookies.

Carrot Cookies

2 cups carrots -- boiled and pureed
2 eggs
2 tablespoons garlic -- minced
2 cups unbleached flour -- *see Note
1 cup rolled oats
1/4 cup wheat germ
*or rice flour or rye flour.

Combine carrots, eggs and garlic. Mix until smooth. Add dry ingredients. Roll out on heavily floured surface and cut into bars or desired shapes. Bake at 300 degrees for 45 minutes or to desired crunchiness. The centers will continue to harden as they cool. Brush with egg white before baking for a glossy finish.
