Is it too young to take a kitten away from its mother?
My friend's cat just had kittens, and I decided that I will take one. They will be 5 weeks old on my birthday. Is that too young to take a kitten away from its mother? Or should I wait till its 10 weeks old or longer?

Hi there,
Yes - 5 weeks is too early and should be avoided at all costs.
Weaning usually takes place between 5 and 12 weeks of age, and this is a highly important phase of a kitten's development and socialisation. If your friend is accommodating, you may like to go to your friend's house to spend time with the kitten during these weeks to help with human interaction. But it's important to ensure that the kitten remains with its mother until at least 8 weeks of age.
