How to prevent cat from getting upstairs?

Hi all, so we would, ideally, like to keep our cat from going upstairs... since we have a little toddler who has a bit of an obsession with putting things in her mouth, so we're trying to keep a cat free environment in her bedroom. We've been thinking about buying one of these: prams.net/babydan-guard-me as our toddler is also getting more confident on her feet so it'll be an extra wall of protection from injury! 

However... we are aware that cats jump! So do you think that this will be okay, or does anyone have any better recommendations?
